ALBUM PREMIERE: Mosquito Boy — “How to Play”

The Mosquito Boy visited places such as Hyrule, The Mushroom Kingdom, and Planet Namek. He was shaped by these places and the experiences held in them; he turned everything he experienced into music and dubbed it onto a cassette. We are honored to premiere for you today the summation of his life’s work: How to Play.

How to Play was originally released independently on February 28, 2018. Beet Knife‘s master recording engineer got his hands on the fabled cassette and remastered it for your listening pleasure, optimized now for the year 2020.

Using elements like Donkey Kong’s forward smash from Super Smash Bros. Melee as a drum clap and melodies pulled from classic Sailor Moon episodes, Mosquito Boy finds the perfect balance between nostalgia and newness. Each bite-sized track is its own adventure and a labor of love. The music pairs well with (if we may say so ourselves) studying, chilling, and/or relaxing.

Listen to How to Play on Bandcamp using the player embedded above, and if you’d like to support the artist and feel the power of the tape in your hand, we’d encourage you to purchase a cassette.
